Sunrise, Sunset
This ongoing photographic project explores the delicate balance between human activity and the natural world. I document the ever-changing landscapes of various environmental sites, focusing on the impacts of civilization and expansionist ideologies on these fragile ecosystems.
Initially focused on Christmas Tree Pass, now part of the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument, this project has expanded to encompass the landscapes near Sunrise Mountain and the proposed East Side Monument. Through solo trips and walks, I immerse myself in these environments, documenting during the mystic light of sunrise and sunset. The glow of sunrise often symbolizes new beginnings, growth, and awakening, while the fading light of sunset invites reflection and a transition into the quietude of night, mirroring the natural cycles of life and death.
As I explore, I seek moments of both awe and concern. I document instances of human impact, such as litter and scars on the land, while actively minimizing my footprint by removing debris and repurposing or recycling materials whenever possible.
This project aims to highlight the resilience of nature and the beauty of the natural world while simultaneously acknowledging the challenges it faces. By documenting and discussing the delicate balance between human presence and nature, I hope to raise awareness and encourage a deeper appreciation for the ecosystems that sustain us.
